Prominent Iranian reformist cleric jailed, ordered to be defrocked

The brother of a prominent reformist cleric says the cleric has been jailed and ordered to be defrocked on charges of endangering national security and insulting authorities.
Hadi Ghabel has been arrested by security officers and taken to jail after he was invited for questioning at the Clerical Court in the holy city of Qom, Ahmed Ghabel told The Associated Press.
Hadi, an ally of former reformist president Mohammad Khatami, has been sentenced to 40 months in jail and ordered to be defrocked.
