Report: Iran hangs five men convicted of murder, armed robbery

A state-owned newspaper says Iran has hanged five men convicted of murder and armed robbery. The hangings have brought to about 50 the number of people executed in Iran since the beginning of the year. The Thursday report in an Iranian newspaper says the five were executed the previous day in the notorious Evin prison just north of the capital, Teheran. Murder, rape, armed robbery and kidnapping, along with drug trafficking, are all capital offenses in the Islamic Republic.
