Rights group condemns imprisonment of Iranian

An Iranian rights group on Tuesday condemned the beating and imprisonment of Mansour Osanlou, a union leader, saying the harsh treatment was an example of human rights violations in the Islamic Republic. Osanlou, leader of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company, was beaten up in broad daylight by security agents on July 10 and later taken to jail on unspecified charges, the group said. The Syndicate is an independent trade union not recognized by the Iranian government. "The humiliating detention of Osanlou on a bus and his beating is another example of the worrisome treatment that tramples the most basic human rights of citizens," said the Defending Prisoners' Rights Society, a nongovernment rights group.
