S. Africa: Amendments will help Iran resolution

South Africa insisted Wednesday its extensive amendments would not weaken a resolution drafted by six world powers to increase pressure on Iran to suspend uranium enrichment, but would improve it. South Africa's Ambassador Dumisani Kumalo said he would explain to the 14 other Security Council members later Wednesday exactly why his government proposed a 90-day "time out" on all sanctions against Iran and elimination of an embargo on arms exports and financial sanctions targeting Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards and an Iranian bank.
