Iran plans to "greatly reduce" its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) if the UN Security Council decides to place further sanctions on the Islamic Republic, an Iranian lawmaker said overnight Wednesday.
Tehran Times reported that Kazem Jalali, a member of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said Iran would not be obligated to cooperate with the UN if its decisions are "purely politically motivated."
Jalali said that should US President Barack Obama seek to improve relations with Iran, he could prove his good intentions by ensuring that the Iranian nuclear issue is taken off the Security Council's agenda, and supply Iran with nuclear fuel.
The Security Council will meet on Thursday to discuss the possibility of placing further sanctions on Iran.
On Wednesday, Iranian Defense Minister Brig.-Gen. Ahmad Vahidi said that "Should the Zionist forces pose any threat against Iran, we will never hesitate to target their nuclear sites and centers for proliferation of chemical, biochemical, as well as dirty and prohibited weapons."
