Aya, an Israeli short film, gets Oscar nod

A second Israeli film was also on the shortlist but did not get a nod.

The Israeli short film, Aya, was among the Oscar nominees in the Best Live Action Short category. The nominees were announced on Thursday in Los Angeles.
The short dramatic film Aya was directed by Oded Binnun and Mihal Brezis. It stars Sarah Adler as an Israeli woman who impulsively pretends to be the driver for a total stranger, a music professor played by Ulrich Thomsen, who arrives at the airport.
Adler has worked in both Israel and France and appeared in Jean-Luc Godard’s Notre Musique. Thomsen, a Danish actor, is currently starring in the HBO series, Banshee, and appeared in the James Bond movie, The World is Not Enough, and the art-house classic, The Celebration.
A second Israeli film, Summer Vacation, was also on the shortlist but did not get a nod.
Aya will be Israel’s sole nominee this year.The Academy Awards will be presented in a ceremony on February 22
