An Arab teen will be brought before the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Monday for a hearing on extending his detention after he was arrested for allegedly perpetrating two stabbing attacks in Jerusalem.
The suspect, 15, is a resident of the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina.
Police allege that on January 8, the youth stabbed a Jewish man in the back with a screwdriver near Damascus Gate in the Old City.
The suspect managed to escape into the Old City. With the help of security cameras, authorities managed to track him down and arrest him near the Temple Mount.
Investigators gathered evidence indicating similarities between the Damascus Gate stabbing and an earlier incident in November which a Jewish man was stabbed in the back near the Old City.
Forensic experts gathered DNA evidence at the scene and compared the findings with samplings taken at the site of the first stabbing.
