1,000 flats planned for Har Homa neighborhood

The Jerusalem Municipality is proposing the construction of 1,000 new apartments in the city's southeastern Har Homa neighborhood, the city said Tuesday. The proposal, which is pending final state approval, is one of several city building plans in the works instead of a controversial westward city expansion plan which has been frozen by Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski following one of the largest environmental campaigns in the country in years. The building plan will be the third stage of construction in the neighborhood, which is located on the city's rim overlooking Bethlehem. The construction of the neighborhood last decade was widely condemned by the Palestinians.
