One Palestinian was killed and twelve were wounded, while three Israeli soldiers were also wounded in gunfights on Wednesday after troops entered the West Bank town of Jenin in pursuit of suspected terrorists, Palestinian and Israeli officials said. One of the Palestinians was moderately hurt, and the other 11 were slightly wounded, Palestinian doctors said. The IDF said the soldiers were also lightly wounded. Palestinian sources said that the killed Palestinian was unarmed, according to an Army Radio report. Heavy exchanges of fire were reported in the center of the town, which the army placed under curfew, Palestinian security officials said. About 70 army jeeps and 25 armored personnel carriers entered the town, they added. Troops entered houses in search of the wanted men, residents said. The army said it was conducting a routine operation to arrest Palestinians suspected of terrorist activity.
