18-year-old stabbed to death near home in Rishon Lezion

Police suspect attack followed argument between youths, investigating involvement of second teen treated at hospital for stab wounds.

18-year-old Tzahi Basha was stabbed to death with a sharp object near his home in Rishon Lezion overnight Saturday. Police suspect that Basha was killed following an argument with other youths. According to the initial investigation, it emerged that despite sustaining multiple stab wounds, Basha attempted to reach his house on Popel Street but collapsed some 100 meters from him home after losing a large amount of blood. A passer-by tried to resuscitate the teen and called an MDA crew but the crew was forced to pronounce Basha dead. Police were searching for the attackers but a motive was yet to be determined. Basha had no criminal past. A 16-year-old was being treated for light stab wounds at Asaf Harofeh Hospital and Rishon Lezion Police commander Amihai Eshed told Israel Radio that police were investigating whether the teen was involved in the incident. Eshed added that Basha had been out with his 14-year-old cousin from Beit She'an who was a witness to the attack. Eshed said that, after overcoming the initial shock of the incident, Basha's cousin was cooperating with police.
