Two Galilee residents were killed in the early hours of Friday morning in a collision between two cars and a fuel truck on Route 75 in the North, between Yagur junction and Lev Hamifratz.
The two lost their lives when their car, a Mazda 6, burst into flames following the accident.
Police said that the two cars first collided and the truck subsequently hit one of the vehicles.
They urged eyewitnesses to contact them with any new information that could further help the inquiry.
The two bodies were transferred to the Abu Kabir Forensics Institute for identification.
Haifa firefighter Uri Jibutar said that when he arrived on the scene, the car was simply "a flame."
"There wasn't much we could do. We put the fire out and to our horror, we discovered what we saw. A sad, difficult site," said Jibutar.
Police said that the truck driver, a 39-year-old Haifa resident, said that he noticed the car at the last moment, hit the breaks, but did not manage to stop in time. The man was freed on bail and next week, police will decide whether to confiscate his license for three weeks.
It marks the second fatal accident in a week in which a car has fatally caught fire after a crash.
Last Monday, the body of David Vilinger, 25, was found in a car that had caught fire following an accident on Route 6. It took an hour for rescue services to extract the body from the burning car, making it difficult to identify.
Also Friday morning, a 60-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in an accident at Tiron junction, while riding towards Tel Aviv.
The casualty was evacuated to Tel Hashomer's Sheba Medical Center.
On Thursday night, four-year-old Ron Nof was killed when a truck driven by her father overturned on the Coastal Highway.
The father was lightly injured.
