3 dead, 11 injured in traffic accidents

2 trucks and private car collide in accident near Hatishbi junction; two cars collide in Kiryat Shmona.

Two people were killed and six others injured, two seriously, one moderately and three more lightly, in a traffic accident that occurred on Tuesday near Hatishbi junction, on Road 66, known as one of the most dangerous roads in the country. The accident occurred when two trucks collided with a private vehicle. A preliminary police investigation revealed that a truck driver traveling from Megido did not observe a proper distance from the private car in front of him. He collided with the vehicle and swerved to the side of the road. The truck hit a security railing, overturned and blocked the opposite lane, where another truck collided with it. One of the truck drivers died instantly, and the second was badly injured and later died of his wounds, after rescue forces from the Yizrael firefighters station could not save him. One of the casualties, a 58-year-old man, was taken by helicopter to the Rambam Hospital in Haifa. According to a paramedic who arrived at the scene, the three lightly wounded passengers were taken to Carmel Hospital and the moderately wounded passenger was also taken to Rambam Hospital. Earlier Tuesday, another accident occurred in Kiryat Shmona when two vehicles collided. As a result of the collision the driver of one of the cars was killed and five people were injured. The accident apparently occurred when a private vehicles did not obey a red light and collided with a car in the opposite lane.
