5 youths riot in Herzliya restaurant

Guards stabbed by drunk revelers, remand hearing expected Sunday.

Several youths allegedly destroyed furniture and attacked staff Friday night at an upscale restaurant in Herzliya Pituach. The group, all from the center of the country, spent the night drinking in the restaurant-pub, Army Radio reported. When employees asked them to leave, they grew violent, drew knives, and managed to cause severe damage to the restaurant within the space of a few minutes. By the time police arrived at the Shenkar Street restaurant shortly after the violence began, the entrance to the restaurant was already destroyed. Bloodstains showed where the two security guards had been wounded in the fight. Dep.-Cmdr. David Biton, commander of the Glilot Police, convened his staff and ordered them to locate the suspects. Aided by eyewitnesses and photographs, police managed to locate five of the suspects, all aged 20. The security guards were evacuated to Ichilov Hospital with light to moderate wounds. The suspects spent the weekend in jail and were expected to be brought before a judge for a remand Sunday. Police were searching for additional suspects.
