62 suspected drunk drivers arrested overnight

Traffic Police at checkpoints set up around nightspots in Tel Aviv and Haifa Friday night arrested 62 drivers suspected of operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Israel Radio reported. Police said that a total of 830 tickets for traffic violations were written overnight Friday, and a 29 year-old resident of Kiryat Shmona was arrested after police clocked him driving at 180 kilometers per hour on Road 70 near Elayakim. Police said the man had 20 other previous excessive speed violations. His license was suspended for a month following the latest infraction. Thirteen additional individuals had their licenses pulled after police stopped them for especially dangerous driving behavior, and 60 vehicles were ordered off the road after traffic officials deemed them unsuitable for operation.
