Abu Obeidah: Breakthrough reached in Shalit talks

Abu Obaidah, spokesman for Hamas's armed wing, Izaddin Kassam, announced Sunday that a breakthrough had been reached in negotiations to free kidnapped IDF soldier Cpl. Gilad Shalit, Israel Radio reported. According to Obeidah, if contacts continue along current lines, the prisoner exchange transaction will take place quickly and very soon. Obeidah did not confirm or deny the reports in a United Arab Emirates newspaper that claimed Israel had received a videotape proving Shalit was alive. Meanhwile, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit told the London daily Al Hayat that negotiations for Shalit's release were going smoothly, and that Egypt was just waiting for Palestinian approval.
