Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has spoken by phone with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
It was the first senior contacts between the two sides since Sharon suffered a massive stroke late Wednesday.
There were no immediate details on their conversation. Palestinian leaders were closely monitoring Sharon's condition.
