Al Gore, Amos Oz among winners of Dan David Award for 2008

The Dan David Award committee announced its 2008 winners, Tuesday. Al Gore will receive a $1 million prize for his contribution to social responsibility with an emphasis on environmental issues. Israeli novelist Amos Oz, British playwright, film director and screenwriter Tom Stoppard (of Jewish descent) and Canadian Armenian filmmaker Atom Egoyan will share a $1 million prize for their contribution to the reflection of past artistic endeavors in current creative output in the fields of literature, theater and cinema. Alan Mosley, Lonnie G. Thompson and Geoffrey Eglinton will share a $1 million prize for their contribution to research in Earth sciences.
