Eilat residents were shocked late Monday when anti-Semitic graffiti was sprayed on a local synagogue. "Hitler is the Messiah; Long live Jesus!" was found spray-painted on the southern city's Pahad Itzhak Synagogue, Eilat's chief rabbi's place of worship. Crosses were also sprayed on the synagogue, including on the outer case of the closed holding the Torah scrolls.
The incident recalled events one year ago, when anti-Semitic graffiti including swastikas was sprayed on tombstones in Eilat's cemetery. Several youths were arrested in connection with that incident.
