Army and security officials criticized Vice Premier
Shimon Peres Wednesday for his request to ease the passage of Gazans through
Israel.
An army spokesman said, “We still haven’t reached a new mideast condition which affords security concerns to remain second to any other concern.â€
“The threat of terror attacks through [Gaza-Israel] checkpoints has not only continued after disengagement but has actually increased,†Army Radio reported that he said.
A spokesman for the Vice Premier's office responded to the statement by saying, “There is an agreement that minister Mofaz will deal with all security matters, and that minister Peres will deal with all economic and civilian affairs.â€
