Attack on Clalit doctor leads to 5 hour strike

The Clalit Health Services community clinic in Kiryat Yam near Haifa will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday as a protest by doctors against a physical attack by a patient against a female physician a few days ago. The patient refused to wait in line even for a few minutes. The doctor asked him to sit down, but he started to hit her in the chest and on her shoulder, broke her finger and even tried to choke her, according to an Israel Medical Association statement. Dr. Shlomo Birkenfeld, head of Clalit's doctors' union, said that violence in medical facilities has "long ago crossed the red line" and that security guards are needed on site all through the working day.
