Beilin: Policeman's dismissal won't fix racism

Meretz chairman Yossi Beilin said on Saturday night that the dismissal of the police officer responsible for sending the message containing a derogatory term in referring to the Arab participants in a rally in Umm el-Fahm would not solve the problem of institutional discrimination of Israeli Arabs by the Police. "This discrimination is a disgrace to Israeli society," said Beilin, adding that it was the government's duty to deal with the problem. The message, sent out just before the rally was to take place on Friday night, said "15,000 'Arabushim' [a derogatory word for Arabs] have so far arrived at the rally."
