President Shimon Peres met with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salaam Fayad in Jerusalem a week ago, and plans to meet with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, reports said on Tuesday. At the meeting with Fayad, which was coordinated with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, the two men discussed ties between the PA and Israel. The meeting with Abbas will likewise be coordinated with the prime minister. "Everyone wants to meet and we will meet," Peres told reporters in Jerusalem when asked if he would meet Abbas. "We have things to talk about. Not every meeting is negotiations." An official from Abbas's office said he had received an invitation from Peres but a meeting had not yet been scheduled. Also on Tuesday, the president met with Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) President Rene van der Linden. Peres criticized PACE for investing millions in developing Iranian oil fields. "Europe could prevent war with Teheran," Peres said, and advised PACE to coordinate their activities with the US and Russia.
