Ben-Gurion workers decide to postpone airport strike

Move comes after management agrees to resume negotiations over Israel Aviation Authority workers union pensions next week.

Israel Aviation Authority workers who had planned to strike over Rosh Hashana decided Wednesday to postpone their protest, after management promised to start pay negotiations on Sunday.
The general strike had been scheduled for Thursday morning, and was set to freeze all activity at Israel’s airports.
The workers are in a dispute over the establishment of a central severance fund to guarantee employees’ pensions.
Two weeks ago the union held a general employee meeting during work hours in order to disrupt operations and raise awareness of their cause, but the intervention of Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz prevented further disruptions at the time.
On Tuesday morning workers and Histadrut representatives held a meeting with Israel Aviation Authority officials, but the discussion failed to satisfy the workers and they announced the strike.
