Bill: Public office and dual citizenship don't mix

The Knesset plenum on Wednesday passed a bill aimed at "preventing dual citizenship and government positions in enemy countries." The bill, proposed by MK Yuval Steinitz (Likud), states that an Israeli citizen who is also a citizen of an enemy country cannot accept public office, paid or otherwise. The bill was created to prevent government officials from acting on conflicting interests, as in the case of MK Ahmed Tibi (United Arab List), who served as an advisor to former Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat.
