The sole woman in Saddam Hussein's defense team was forcibly pulled from the court by guards Monday and she threw off her lawyer's robe in rage after a shouting match with the judge, as the trial of the former Iraqi leader again turned chaotic.
Defense lawyers raised an uproar over the removal of Bushra al-Khalil, accusing the chief judge of trying to intimidate them.
Saddam got into his own heated exchange with chief judge Raouf Abdel-Rahman when he objected to Khalil's removal. The judge told him to be silent, and Saddam shouted back, "I'm Saddam Hussein, president of Iraq. I am above you and above your father."
"You are a defendant now, not a president," the judge barked, banging his gavel.
