Israel's Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar permitted on Friday the Shabbat culling of poultry suspected to be infected with the deadly H5N1 bird flu virus.
Following consultation with informed sources, Rabbi Amar reached the conclusion that the act constituted a life-saving measure, and therefore could be conducted on Saturday, Army Radio reported.
