Chief Rabbi discusses Shalit with Arab counterpart

Sephardi Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar contacted a senior figure in the Arab world regarding kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit and reported the exchange to the prime minister. In an interview on Israel Radio, Rabbi Amar said that further efforts were underway in the upper echelons. He added that the issue of redeeming captives was complicated in Gilad Shalit's case and that he was relying on the judgment of the people making the decisions. Rabbi Amar also informed the Shalit family that a special prayer had been written for the release of their son.
