An Israeli driver was shot and seriously wounded on Tuesday while traveling down Route 6 near the security fence, police said. Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the shots came from the Palestinian territories and struck the driver in the chest. The man was evacuated to the hospital in serious condition. Police set up roadblocks and were searching the area. Police at first feared the shooting was the work of terrorists. However, Rosenfeld said an initial inquiry revealed that a wedding taking place in a nearby Arab village at the time was the likely source of the fire. Arab weddings traditionally include gunfire into the air as a form of celebration.
