More than 300 kilograms of meat and 20 live sheep were confiscated Thursday by veterinary officials during a raid on an illegal slaughter-house operating in east Jerusalem, police said.
The black-market slaughter house, which was being run in a courtyard in the east Jerusalem village of Jebl Mukaber, was ordered shut, while the owner was slapped with a NIS 74,000 fine.
A butcher shop was also found operating just 150
meters from the east Jerusalem site.
The city's veterinary service cautioned the public
against buying any unauthorized meats which can spread an array of infectious diseases.
