Egypt offers medical treatment for soldier

The Egyptian consulate in Gaza on Monday contacted the kidnappers of IDF soldier Gilad Shalit via a go-between and offered to supply medical supplies and treatment for Shalit, who reportedly sustained serious wounds to the head and chest during an attack on IDF forces near Kerem Shalom on Sunday. It was unclear whether Shalit's abductors planned to accept the Egyptians' offer. Israel Radio reported that the consulate even offered to allow doctors to be blindfolded on their way to treat Shalit, so that they would be unable to divulge his whereabouts.
