Egypt criticized the US House of Representatives on Saturday night for making a declaration praising Israel over the 40th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem.
A foreign ministry spokesman in Cairo said the declaration contravened international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
The spokesman added that the statement also conflicted with the Bush government's position on the issue of east Jerusalem.
He called on all sides not to adopt stances that would "ignite the region."
The House of Representatives also called on US President George Bush to transfer the US embassy to Jerusalem.
The declaration went on to condemn Egypt and Jordan for attacking Israel in 1967 but also praised Cairo and Amman for their peace efforts.
