Egyptian foreign minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit said Thursday he will soon travel to Israel to discuss a peace initiative revived by Arab countries earlier this year.
Aboul Gheit told reporters he will visit the Jewish state after meeting with US officials in Washington to push for discussion of the peace plan at an upcoming meeting of the Quartet - an international group of Mideast peacemakers that includes the US, Russia, the UN and the EU.
The Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement that Aboul Gheit will visit Washington July 8-10 but did not provide a specific date for his trip to Israel.
