The Winograd Committee charged with investigating the conduct of the war in the North heard its most senior witnesses to date on Tuesday.
Former prime minister Ehud Barak, who ordered the withdrawal of IDF forces from south Lebanon in 2000, testified for some two hours beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Before Barak, beginning at 9:00 a.m., National Infrastructures Minister Binyamin "Fuad" Ben-Eliezer, who was deputy prime minister during the withdrawal, appeared before the committee.
While the debates were closed to the press, sources close to the committee said that both men "were asked difficult questions about the way in which Israel withdrew, about the intelligence deployment that followed the withdrawal, and about the overall military-strategic challenge of Hizbullah."
According to the source, committee members went into "extremely small detail" with their questioning.
