The Israel Cancer Association (ICA) invested NIS 400,000 in a holiday camp at Shfayim for young cancer patients and their immediate families that will begin on Thursday. The participants are coming from around the country, and will include Jews and Arabs, religious and secular, new immigrants and veteran Israelis, and many large families.
The four-day camp, which offers full board at the Shfayim Hotel, will take the 150 families to the Ramat Gan Safari (this visit was donated by two healthy children who gave all the money they received for their bar mitzvas), other trips, entertainment performances donated by stars, and presents given by various companies.
"This experience is a special opportunity for families with a child ill with cancer to take a break, time from their tense, anxious struggle against the disease and the painful treatments. It is a time to be together, for all the siblings to get equal attention and to rest." It was made possible by donations to the ICA during its recent Knock on the Door fundraising campaign.
