Firefighters extinguish flames near Haifa

Firefighters succeeded on Wednesday in extinguishing the fire that erupted along the western slopes of the Carmel mountains near Haifa on Tuesday. Army Radio reported that the flames decimated 250 acres of natural forest, before it was finally controlled. A source in the firefighting services said that this was the most severe fire they have seen in recent years, certainly not in January. The fire was believed to be caused by an IDF training accident involving live ammunition in a target range.
