Candidate for Labor party chair Ehud Barak cannot take contradictory steps, MK Zahava Gal-On (Meretz) said Tuesday after he addressed the public in his first press conference since announcing his candidacy six months ago.
"Olmert cannot continue to head the state; Barak's participation in his government will prevent the Labor party from becoming an alternative to the present administration," said Gal-On.
The Meretz MK was referring to Barak's offer to join Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's government as defense minister during a transitional period until new elections are held.
