Gillerman blasts Libya's UN envoy

Israeli ambassador to the UN Dan Gillerman blasted Libya's UN envoy Giadalla Ettalhi Wednesday night, saying that "unfortunately there is no clearer criterion for joining the UN Security Council." Responding to the Libyan envoy's statement that Israel was committing crimes against humanity in Gaza, Gillerman said that the country that "gave the world the Lockerbie terror attack should not preach to us about human rights." After more than a week of negotiations over a UN Security Council presidential statement on the current Gaza crisis, the council abandoned the effort on Tuesday after it could not come to agreement on changes Ettalhi made to the text.
