Government backs police in the wake of Peki'in riots

The government on Sunday expressed its support of the police following the violent incidents in Peki'in last week, Israel Radio reported. During a cabinet meeting in which government members were shown police footage from the riots, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and fellow ministers said that the state must stand strong in the face of rioters in order to enforce the law. Almost 40 people were injured in clashes on October 30 when police forces entered the village to arrest local youths, suspected of earlier acts of civil disorder in protest of a cellular phone antenna placed in the area.
