Gov't seeks to shrink neighborhood redevelopment

The government is set to request an approval on Sunday for a reduction in the neighborhood redevelopment project that has begun across the country. If the proposal is approved, redevelopment work in 63 impoverished neighborhoods, out of the 100 neighborhoods the project was destined for, will be cancelled. Army Radio reported that MK Ran Cohen (Meretz), who was appointed to implement the program asked Labor ministers to oppose minimizing the scheme, claiming that it would severely harm the lower levels of Israeli society.
