Gunman killed in gun battle with IDF near Nablus

Army reports increase in number of shooting attacks on soldiers.

Early Sunday morning during an operation near Assira Shamaliya, north of Nablus, a gun battle erupted between soldiers and Palestinian gunmen, killing one of the gunmen. Soldiers found an M-16 rifle and three ammunition clips near his body. During the same operation in a different part of the village, shots were fired at soldiers. No one was wounded and no damage was reported in this second incident. The army reported that in the last two weeks, there has been an increase in the number of shooting attacks on soldiers operating in the Nablus area. Meanwhile, south of Bethlehem, soldiers arrested a Palestinian youth minutes after he was spotted throwing a firebomb at an Israeli vehicle. No one was wounded in the attack.
