Herzog denies original benefits were NIS 83

Welfare and Social Affairs Minister Isaac Herzog (Labor) has denied claims that the original pension for Holocaust survivors proposed by the government was NIS 83 a month, Israel Radio reported on Monday. Herzog said that the sum was actually an addition to the existing pensions proposed by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. "The Finance Minister proposed a plan which contained several factors. Olmert came to the discussion and we noticed some of the figures are illogical. We wanted to reach hundreds of shekels per month per survivor and Olmert said he will add an additional 120 million for 2008."
