The High Court on Monday rejected a petition by watchdog organizations Almagor and the Movement for Quality Government against appointing a new IDF chief of General Staff before the Winograd Committee completed its investigation into the summer's war in Lebanon.
The decision came as Maj.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, the candidate chosen to replace Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz as chief of staff, finished his examination by a legal committee, thus leaving the way clear for Ashkenazi to be appointed to the post.
