High Court to discuss Genot appointment petitions

The High Court of Justice was set to discuss petitions against the appointment of IPS Chief Warden Yaakov Genot as the next chief of police on Sunday. However, the state wrote that the petitions were submitted too early, and the advisory committee headed by former justice Yaakov Terkel must be allowed to make its decision on the appointment before any High Court discussion takes place. Genot's appointment has met with opposition, since he was accused of bribery, fraud and breach of trust 12 years ago. He was later cleared of the charges in court, but many have criticized the legal process that led to his acquittal.
