High school teachers strike enters 38th day

The high school teachers strike continued for its 38th day on Wednesday, after a meeting late Tuesday between representatives of the government and the Secondary School Teachers Organization ended without results. Both sides reported a "positive atmosphere" at the meeting, at which Histadrut Labor Federation head Ofer Eini served as mediator, but added that they had not managed to find a way out of the current impasse. Eini said that only now were the teachers beginning to consider his draft agreement, according to which their salaries would be raised and the number of pupils per class reduced. In addition, class hours cut in recent years would be restored.
