Lt.-Cmdr Miri Golan - for years the head of the Israel Police's elite National Fraud Squad - will retire in October of this year and be replaced by Asst.-Cmdr. Shlomi Ayalon, currently Israel Police's Berlin representative.
Golan, the highest-ranking woman in the police force, investigated many high-profile cases throughout her tenure, including those of politicians Binyamin Netanyahu, Omri Sharon and Omri's father, then-Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
Golan had reportedly been promised by former Internal Security Minister Tzahi Hanegbi a promotion to the coveted rank of commander, but the promise remained unfulfilled.
Golan had also frequently been named as a possible successor to former Investigations Division Commander Cmdr. Moshe Mizrahi, another ambition that never saw fruition.
