Finance Minister Avraham Hirchson on Wednesday morning was considering appointing a temporary replacement for Israel Tax Authority head Jacky Matza, who was arrested Tuesday as part of a police investigation into a major tax fraud scandal.
If Hirchson does decide to replace Matza, Army Radio reported, the appointment would be limited to the duration of the investigation against him.
Matza's attorney, Navot Tel-Tzur, upon hearing the report, vouched for his client's honesty and respectability.
"Jacky Matza is a very professional appointee," he told Army Radio, describing him as "straight as a ruler."
