Hirchson considers canceling pensions freeze

Finance Minister Avraham Hirchson said Tuesday that he would consider the possibility of canceling the freeze on pensions if it doesn't prove to be an effective saving mechanism. Hirchson told Army Radio that he was in favor of the slightest possible harm to the weak sections of society. "We didn't reduce pensions, we just temporarily froze them," said the finance minister. "We will consider the issue until the last possible moment and if the latest calculations show that the savings were not as large as we expected, we will consider canceling the freeze," he continued. Hirchson added that the budget was expected to change until its final approval, but stressed that its general framework was not open to change and any alteration would only be made in the present format.
