Histadrut threatens public with a strike

The Histadrut workers' union threatened Sunday night that they would declare a strike shutting down parts of public services if the Amry Industry (Ta'as) worker's do not receive their salaries by morning. Ta'as management withheld employee salaries for the month of September due to debts to its suppliers amounting to hundreds of thousands of shekels. Histadrut chairman Amir Peretz told Army Radio that withholding Ta'as workers' salaries might lead to similar withholdings in the private sector. Acting finance minister Ehud Olmert stated that his office already committed to pay the workers' salaries, and hence the threat of strike is nothing more than a public relations stunt.
