IDF denies report Baalbek raid was just for show

The IDF spokesperson on Friday denied the opening headline of the Maariv daily, which stated that the IDF raid the southern Lebanese village of Baalbek was purposeless and only meant for show, Army Radio reported. According the newspaper report, the operation in Baalbek was carried out despite evaluations that it would not achieve its intelligential goals. The IDF spokesperson responded that the operation was a focused campaign against Hizbullah in which 19 terrorists were killed, and that it achieved its goals fully. The IDF spokesperson also pointed out that the operation had brought about a significant change in the character of Hizbullah's activities in the Bekaa valley, and increased Hizbullah's sense of being pursued.
