IDF soldiers roughed up Israeli demonstrators in the West Bank Wednesday, breaking up a protest against roadblocks, in scenes shown on TV. Channel 2 said the protesters dismantled a roadblock south of the West Bank city of Hebron, provoking the army's response. The footage showed soldiers and border police, armed with assault rifles and wearing helmets, pushing the protesters away, wrestling with some, shoving a woman and stabbing a young man in the ribs with a rifle barrel. The demonstrator was seen collapsing to the ground, screaming in pain, holding his chest. It was not known how seriously he was injured. The military had no immediate comment on the incident. The Channel 2 IDF reporter said maintaining roadblocks in the area were essential, because several Palestinian suicide bombers had used that route on their way to Israel.
